Experience with Edea Extra wide E fit
« on: June 09, 2025, 12:10:52 pm »
Hi I’ve just joined the skating forum so I’m not sure if I’ve done this right but looking for advice from anyone with an E (extra wide) fit Edea boots.  I’ve been skating in Jackson Elles the last 6 months, from the beginning I've really suffered with arch pain as not only are the skates 1-2 sizes too big in length they’re also too narrow for my wide feet even though I got the wide size.  My coach recommended Edeas to me because she said I have the right foot shape (I think she means where my toes are) for Edeas and said that Edea’s come in extra wide size but my local skate shop doesn’t have the extra wide in store for me to try on first.  I’ve also been properly measured this time in person instead of the online measuring service where I traced my foot and I was a size 8.5 in Jackson’s size and a 255 in Edeas.  - U.K. standard shoe size I think I was in the Jackson equivalent of a 6.5UK going down to 5UK in Edea.

I’m just wondering if anyone found Edea the right fit for them with very wide feet, everyone I know or have reached out to online all say Edea is made for narrow feet yet they do the extra wide size other brands don’t do.  For style my coach recommended a much stiffer boot than Elles and even though I’m not doing jumps yet apart for bunny hops she recommended I try on both chorus and Concerto skates and go for the stiffest one I can manage because the rate I’m progressing I should be doing single jumps at the end of this year and I want them to last me.  I’m in my 30’s and a heavier skater, I put in about 12 hours a week practice time and want them to last me longer without breaking down this time.

Any feedback would be so helpful, thank you ⛸️💫🩷

I've got the Chorus, have had them for more years than I can remember, probably done thousands of hours in them, they seem pretty solid still.  I am around 80kg.  They are normal not wide fit, they seem OKish for my feet, which are I guess normal in terms of width.  Hard to know what to do about the extra wide - I expect they'd be special order so no refunds if they turned out not to be right for you.  How are the normal width Edeas, assuming you have tried them on?  One good thing I have found with Edea is that they didn't need any break in time, for me anyway.

I have no experience with Edeas.  But here's a general caveat for those with wide feet.  The width (such as E) refers to the width at the ball of the foot. Many people have feet with wide balls, but narrower heels.  For figure skates, a snug heel pocket is crucial.  At the same time, the heel pocket is the least adjustable portion of the boot; the ball is more amenable to expansion via heat molding and punching out.  So the heel pockets should fit snugly as-is. Make sure to have detailed measurements and tracings of your entire feet, particularly the heels.

If the difference in width between your heel and ball is within a certain range, you might be able to fit a stock boot.  E.g., Jackson models listed as based on the Elite last come stock split width with the heel nominally one width narrower than the ball.  If the difference is too great, you might need a semi-custom or custom split width.  I don't know whether Edea offers such options.

Excellent point about the heel.  I have slim heels and my Edeas don't fit my heels all that well.  They don't do custom boots - you are meant to be able to heat mould them with a gun but good luck finding a UK retailer who will do that for you - I have never found one.
