A bit off-topic, but on the same theme; well worth a look;
Alessandro "Alo" Slebir surfs a record breaking wave (23rd December 2024)

I wonder if skaters would take to surfing quicker than the average person?
Physical strength, and core balance would potentially give them a head start.

Our skating club went on a ski trip and pretty much everyone learned the basics in a couple of hours, even me.

I wonder what the rinks would make of a skateboard with ice blades...

Probably wouldn't allow them, due to them not being attached to the skater, and being a potential trip hazard; then again they allow penguin/seal skating aids on the ice.
You could try wearing curling shoes (for grip) to help propel you along too.
Possibly setup their own session, similar to 'stick and puck' sessions, so you could have jumps and cones on the ice.
For some reason I thought of the Doncaster Dome, "the UK's only split-level Ice Rink" <- probably be a good place to have a play.

Good points about trip hazards.  The difference between skateboards and penguins is that rinks make money from penguins.

I can't see there being much of a market for ice skateboarding.  Too constrained, not cool enough, not enough slopes and obstacles.

What's a "split level ice rink" when it's at home?  The website doesn't really show/explain.

Interesting.  I wonder what prompted them to do that.  I guess it's a unique selling point.  I imagine it's popular with young people who have the energy to go uphill and the lack of fear going downhill.  I've never skated up or down hill on ice (though AP used to have a slope it wasn't quite like the Doncaster one) but have done plenty on wheels.  I wonder how many crashes they have on the downhill part - you pick up speed very quickly and most people will struggle to control their speed especially in such a narrow space.  I think you would just have to bomb it and people at the bottom need to keep the exit area clear.
