Getting skates punched out in London (haglund's deformity)
« on: July 03, 2024, 10:18:10 pm »
Hi everyone!

I'm an adult skater who has been skating for 3 years. My first boots (jackson mystique) were way too big and created haglund's deformity on both of my feet. After changing boots a year ago (jackson debut) the problem kept getting worse even though these are the correct size, length-wise at least. I have wide feet but very skinny ankles/heels so there must have still been movement there. I developed bursitis which was so bad that I had to give up skating for several months, even though I was wearing bunga pads to ease the pain. I'm afraid I might be forced to quit if I don't sort this out...

My only hope is to get my boots punched out at the heel where I have the issue so that there is less pressure on that area (as you would do with a bunion). I live in Greece where we don't even have a proper ice rink, let alone a pro shop, so it was impossible to get this done until now. However, since I will be in London next week I thought I would bring my skates and try to get this done.

My question is if everyone here knows of any good pro shops or figure skating specialists that I could visit, I don't mind the cost as I am desperate but I need it to be done right. The last thing I want is to make the heel even wider than it was and ruin my skates.

There is the London Skate Centre in central London but not sure if they punch out
Better bet might be the shop at Streatham ice rink but I would phone first

Thank you for your suggestions! Unfortunately London Skate Centre said they don't do that, and Streatham will be closed when I am in the UK since the one who runs it will be on holiday  :-\  just my luck I guess haha

Rod Turner will do it - he travels around so worth asking if he will be near London at that time [email protected]
