To a degree.  The traveling pro cast do numbers of their own. Amateurs at the rink do the majority of the main roles.

I think the choreography is set roughly (and the music is pre determined), but the local coaches seem to have quite a lot of freedom to tailor it to the abilities of the skaters involved.

Is that the Skate Excellence lot?  Do you have any names?  I guess it's nice for people to be exposed to it, on the other hand it seems a shame that skaters at each rink miss out on major roles.  All the cast in the Alexandra Palace shows are home grown skaters, as is the showrunner.  The only thing they buy in is professional voice actors to do the speaking, which really makes a difference.

That is the Skate Excellence lot, yes. They advertised for skaters to submit showreels and audition for the Professional On Tour Cast, with axel as a minimum standard, so in theory it's possible that all manner of so-far non-professional skaters could make the touring cast. As far as I know, many decent roles are taken by the local skaters at each rink, too. No names have been released yet for the PTC.

An interesting approach.

Assuming they rehearse at least a little bit together, it would mean a fair bit of travelling as PI rinks are spread far and wide.

They put on some reasonable shows at the Sobell.

I'm not sure that anybody understands the way of PI. The shows seem popular, though.

What role will we be seeing you in? :)

Karen from SE does have a sort of showbiz background/streak - she went to performing arts school (Italia Conti) - as does Becky who runs the shows at AP (Sylvia Young theatre school).

Ahahahahahahahahahahahah.

No.

It takes me 3.5 hours to get to the rink. I am not available for show rehearsals. (Wicked Witch of the West would be type-casting, anyway!)

We are going to Dundee Christmas show
Little mermaid on ice - I think both shows are sold out, should be good it has 3 British pairs champions in it plus a few good junior skaters :)

That's impressive.  We're going to the show at Alexandra Palace on Sunday.  Not sure who is in it though normally good quality and all shows are normally sold out (think they do a few for school groups and then 5 or 6 for general public).

The AP show was up to usual standard.  Standout was Kira Khomenko as the mermaid - banged out 4 doubles easily, lovely port de bras, always over her skates, great future (advanced novice at the moment).

I can chime in on the PI show stuff - at least at our rink.

We don't get the touring cast, so all roles are filled by our skaters (I was in a named role this year). I'm glad - I don't agree with a touring cast for local rink shows as the whole point is to give skaters the opportunity to perform. Most of the PI travelling cast appear to be coaches from what I saw.

We get the music sent, but our coaches have complete control of the choreography (again, at least at our rink).

I love our shows - completely mad, exhausting days, but so much fun!
