Possibly something for the rinks to consider;

This year it's Sunday 3rd December.

Surely that's not the spirit?!  ;D
Returned to the ice in Sept 2017 after a major leg injury in 1999. Skating in Jackson Elite Pro & MK Vision Syncro. Still scary after all these years.

I will leave a space for the first-time or casual user.  Nobody wants to see a weird old man skating around looking grumpy.

I disagree. People need to see people like them skating around, doing things they didn't expect. Society has us conditioned to believe that skating is for kids/teens/athletes rather than older people, people with disabilities, etc.  :)

You make a very good point

I would like to think at least a few people have seen me clumping around over the years and thought “he looks like he’s having fun”. I was accused of being a “cool dude” the other day by some random woman outdoors:)

I’m just not keen on crowds, and I struggle to feel welcome at ice rinks

As an experience, the Friday night adults only roller disco I go to is much more pleasant

I love ice skating but don’t feel enthusiastic about rinks and what one might term the figure skating community - nothing personal, just not my thing

I always encourage anyone who asks to get involved in physical activity and sport, and to pursue their passion, and that you can do this at any age

This took place last year too :)

Inclusive Skating hold their Virtual World Championships to coincide with it, and last year the president of the ISU sent a message to the skaters that was played at our online presentation party, which was held in January :)

skating around

Just to add to what WednesdayMarch mentioned; remember when just doing this, "skating around" confidently would seem amazing to a first-timer/beginner? Not to mention being able to stop properly, and skate backwards! Throw-in some grapevine moves, and someone watching is thinking, "I want to learn skating, so that I can do that".

But yeah I do get your point, sometimes these kind of events can be uber busy/loud/chaotic; however I don't recall hearing anything about this last year before it occurred; not sure how well it was marketed.

Looks like Planet Ice is taking it seriously, which is excellent! I need Bristol to stay open...

I did see plenty of build up to the day last year via the Internet, but not a lot of it was in the UK. I'm hoping that will change this year, with the involvement of Planet Ice as a whole, not just individual rinks.

Indeed - bet you're counting the days down till the Eden Project has their seasonal rink open.
Less than 3 weeks now..
Is it big enough for a pattern dance?
