Sounds very exciting, but I'll not be holding my breath. I've seen this too many times and the new rink has failed to materialise...

If they do manage to buy the existing rink;
"The consortium plans to keep the current rink open at Limekiln Road for the next five years while a new facility is built."

I noticed that there's an adult skater from Ayr competing in Sheffield this week.

It would be fitting if someone senior from the NGB said some kind/helpful words.

Doesn't have to be much, something like, "We heard what happened, and we're very sorry. We're working behind the scenes with the Scottish groups to lend a hand, but if there's anything extra that you feel we could do to help, please let us know".

Sounds like what they need is a miracle, or a temporary rink in the interim, while the planned new one is built.

Perhaps some nearby outdoor tennis courts that aren't being used during the winter. Cover it with an airdome/marquee. Combine a couple of seasonal rinks equipment to make a bigger rink. With a bit of ingenuity and teamwork, they might be able to achieve some short-term ice.

Their next nearest rink, I think is; Auchenharvie Leisure Centre, KA20 3JR.

Wouldn't that be lovely? But, sadly, the NGB don't really give a hoot about adult skaters or anything much outside Sheffield/Dundee/Nottingham.
Returned to the ice in Sept 2017 after a major leg injury in 1999. Skating in Jackson Elite Pro & MK Vision Syncro. Still scary after all these years.

I'm guessing the rink is built on a nice chunk of prime real estate...?

Sadly, I will concede that you were right:

"A potential development opportunity for residential or industrial uses subject to planning or ongoing use subject to modification."

Normally observation is by what you do see; never forget to think about what you don't see.

If they were selling as an ice rink in mind they would of quoted things like, rink size, refrigeration type, resurfacer etc.

The fact that it's advertised is telling; a lot of property gets sold before this stage, since buyers are already known to agents; I wonder if it will go to auction?

Also; correction: Ayr's next closest rink is The Galleon Centre, KA1 1QY.
