What can I do to get more rotations in a two foot spin?
« on: August 12, 2022, 01:53:08 pm »
I've been struggling to do two foot spins and my teacher said I could go from Level 4 to 7 but I don't know how to do 2 foot spins. What should I do?

If you can do a two foot spin, lift one foot and make it a one foot spin and you’ll rotate till you vom.

* How many rotations are you doing now?  How many rotations are you aiming for?

* How are you  entering your spins now?  E.g., are you starting from a standing position with the picks of one foot on the ice; or are you entering from skating in a circle; or ...?

I'd start by asking your teacher what you are doing wrong (and what you are doing right).

This is a controversial view so take it or leave but IMO moving onto anything fancy when your basics are not strong is likely to end up with you being able to do lots of things badly.  Rinks are littered with people who scratch around and can do 20 things, none of them well.  If I had my time again I would just do very very basics for much longer.  I would happily be able to do stroking, crossovers and edges as well as a decent club level ice dancer, and ditch all the jumps, spins and turns.

Ask your teacher to teach you two foot spins!
Returned to the ice in Sept 2017 after a major leg injury in 1999. Skating in Jackson Elite Pro & MK Vision Syncro. Still scary after all these years.
