My wheels are upstairs in a bag somewhere... I just couldn't get on with them, skates that killed my feet and an uneven and sloping driveway meant it was never going to be an easy relationship.

I've been skating on wheels since forever but slopes freak me out - I am OK going up and down them but doing "tricks" on a slope is beyond me.  I have enough trouble with the slight camber on Serpentine Road in Hyde Park.  These days having skated outdoors for a long time I have developed a taste for smooth wooden floors indoors - confidence level is doubled.

I found a pair of inline skates that fitted me really well, better than my figure skates.  But the whole business of finding skates that fit you close to perfectly is just huge, costly pain and lottery, even when you have a good shop.  If they don't carry skates that suit you, you are struggling.

It's quite important to have the same type of boots on your wheels as you have on your blades (even if not the same model) so that you fell that you have the same feet! Being in pain renders the whole exercise useless. Plus having an appropriate suitable on which to skate is a game changer.

Plymouth Pavilions changed to one hour sessions when they reopened after the COVID lockdown, saying that they'd review it after a few months. They never did review it. I'm not sure it made them any more money, as they'd scheduled half an hour in between each for be resurfacing and cleaning. Not that the cleaning ever happened. And now it's closing for good at the end of this month.
Returned to the ice in Sept 2017 after a major leg injury in 1999. Skating in Jackson Elite Pro & MK Vision Syncro. Still scary after all these years.

One hour might be enough for patch if you're training intensely but not really for a normal person on a public session who wants to take a rest now and again, deal with kids.

The Better system is weird as the session times are longer than one hour but you book a one hour slot within a longer session and are meant to arrive just before your slot and get off the ice at the end of it.
