Hello again everyone!
Was just wondering if when backwards skating, does the free foot (that you're not gliding on) point outwards or inwards?

I'm a very inexperienced skater, however I think in the majority of cases the placement of your free foot is dependent on what style of backwards skater you're doing. Are you talking backwards stroking, backwards crossovers, etc?

Basic backwards skating - I take this to mean in a straight line - often referred to as backward stroking (as opposed to basic forward skating in a stright line which is often referred to as forward stroking). Free foot ends up turned OUT. The strike and push goes from an inside edge so the striking foot is turned IN while on the ice then turns out while pushing. The video below explains this quite well.
