First competition
« on: February 02, 2017, 06:34:59 pm »
Hi,
I'm currently doing my level 1 field moves and I have a spin, spiral, jump competition on Saturday. Are there any tips anyone can give me? Either for this specific competition or for competitions in general.
Thank you

Put a huge smile on your face before you go out! A smile, even one you force, releases some sort of chemical that makes you feel happier and more relaxed. Plus the judges love to see a smile.

When your name is called, skate out with a deep knee bed and do a couple of crossovers, or whatever is going to help settle your shaky knees and help your feet to feel 'at one' with the ice.

Take spare socks and tights (even if yours are fine, you may be able to help someone else out  8) ) and a light stomach friendly snack if you're going to be waiting around a long time (don't eat too close to performing though).  Eyes up. Have fun!

I also suggest taking spare laces ... and ALWAYS bow to the judges when you finish and be nice and friendly to your competitors
