I am too old, weak and lacking in talent.

I am sure that's not true! Although I do quite a bit of off-ice conditioning to be able to even attempt that sit spin, and I always have to do a bit of stretching after coming off the ice, otherwise I wouldn't even be able to walk  ;D

Thanks for the vote of confidence but I am not far off getting a freedom pass and while I could probably get a sit spin if I focused on it to the exclusion of all else, my main priority is to be able to skate nicely.  Too many things to do, too little time!  And work and life get in the way.  I watch my (adult) kids do them, and that's enough for me!

For the Mohawk... Sounds like u need to turn your free foot out more before you go onto it.  Sort of glide forward on your lead foot facing into the circle then turn towards your other foot and go on a backward edge, not sure if I'm explaining it very well sorry :( :)

B

looking at your avatar, we skate at the same rink! :D

The full list of what I didn't achieve this and every other week is infinite, but one thing that is really bugging me is not getting my weight properly back when I am going backwards particularly when on an edge, doing crossovers or chasses or a backwards run.  When I do, I pick up a lot of speed and it's scary so there is a resistance.

More knee bend and try to feel that your weight is balanced over the middle of your skate, right over the arch of your foot. Your head needs to be in a vertical line above your hips and foot. For that, you need good knee bend. Any Z shape, and your weight will be wrong.

Also, make sure you're not cramping/curling your toes...
Returned to the ice in Sept 2017 after a major leg injury in 1999. Skating in Jackson Elite Pro & MK Vision Syncro. Still scary after all these years.

Have you seen me skate and do you have x-ray vision?  :)

Thanks for the tips.  A lot of it is overcoming fear and resistance, but having a focus like making sure toes are not curling and posture is good are useful distractions from feeling uncomfortable.  Eventually one gets used to things that used to be uncomfortable mentally, when the body and mind realise you're not going to fall backwards.

Yes. 😁

Actually, no, but I've taught a lot of people - especially adults - over the years!

I'm hell to teach.  Keen, put a lot of effort in, but dumb as a box of rocks and slow with it.  You couldn't pay me enough to teach me.

Ha. Difficult is my specialist subject. I've always said that you have to find 50 different ways of explaining the same thing. And then another one... Slow isn't a problem. What I do struggle with is adults who explain why they aren't doing it how they've been taught rather than actually listening!

I like to think I listen but you'd have to ask my coaches that.  I've just so many bad habits that are so ingrained and so little awareness of what my body is actually doing.  Goodness knows why I took up and stuck with skating.

You’re me! I swear, the fact my coach hasn’t stood bashing his head on the barrier trying to teach me certain skills is a testament to his patience and love for teaching.
