Blade mounting
« on: April 14, 2012, 02:59:00 pm »
Hi there!

I just got my new Revolution Pattern 99 mounted to my skates but I'm not v sure they are right ( is my first pair of blades that weren't pre-attached from the factory).

Any suggestions on how to check if the mount is correct?

Many thanks!

they should be attached with the adjustable screws at first.you need to skate on them and see how they feel and then get some more permanent screws put in.

Hi Alice,

Before you get the permanent screws put in, put the skates on and lace up fairly loosely and stand in them on carpet or vinyl flooring (without the guards on), to see if you can balance on each foot at a time. Hold on to something or someone when you try that. Your body's natural ability to balance will soon tell you. As the last person suggested, lace up normally and try them on the ice too.

Good luck, Robert

to add to this, when you attach the blades, do not assume that the stitching up the toe of the boot is in the middle. Much of the time it isn't!
Judge that by eye down the full length of the boot

I'm amazed they could fit the new blades in the old holes!!! Don't worry how they look as much as how they feel when you skate! If you feel that you are having to try harder than you should to hold a given edge then they may well be wrong. Or they may be right and your body may be used to them having been wrong in the past! A lot of rinks will have a coach who is the person everyone uses for this sort of thing - see if you can find out who that is and go from there!

@smelltheice: The previous blade was the one my skates came with Jackson Ultima Aspire.

I'll post a pic of the new temporary mount. The left heel seems to go 1mm out of the heel while the right doesn't! They said that I shouldn't worry too much about that, and I'm not an expert but somehow I think they should be symetrical L to R ....

They actually look ok. There is no need to worry about that slight variation. You will find that both boots will be slightly different anyway whereas the blades will be more accurate as a pair but as said previously, I would put them on the sliders first so you can adjust them. It is likely that the existing holes that do line up with the old blade, as with so many blades are the 2 toe holes. They are ok but put them on the sliders so you can adjust if needs be. The important thing is that the toe is up to the toe and the heel can go over by a touch if needs be. One of my blades do and its no problem
