For all you competent skaters..... (see attachment)

Dear Skating Friends!

We are very happy to announce that we will once again be hosting our figure skating camp with Michael Huth at the Braehead arena in Glasgow. Mr. Huth has been a great success at the camp in previous years, the skaters enjoy his unique approach to training. The venue to offer the perfect environment to focus on training, but also relax and have fun between sessions.
We are also pleased to announce our first dance camp and first adult camp in Braehead, with John Dunn. These camps will run independently on the same week, using individual ice time throughout each day.
We are looking forward to welcoming skaters and coaches from home and around the world!
Registration forms will be available soon!

Just to mention that the adult 3day camp is for all levels from sk uk up. I'd say as a guide should be ok with forward crosses and starting backwards to get the most out of it but I reckon it'll be great for anyone, says for any level so should be ok :-)

Hi,

From what I have heard from a 'very good' skater who went last year, you need to have the skills to complete Skate UK in a reasonably short time. If you are struggling with Skate UK, then you would struggle at this camp, it is not a magic fix for something you can't do.

Is that from the adult one? I Know kids is aimed higher but I kinda got the impression this was the first year they offered a purely adult one think it was mixed last year and aimed at kids with all the off ice dance classes etc.

Oh just read bottom bit, I realise it's not a magic fix ;) unfortunately I know only too well that magic wands don't exist and if you struggling with things then obviously no a three day school won't fix it but it might give you ideas to help you put it right with time and patience, think anyone going to one of these who isn't in their sponge phase of skate uk where they soak it all up and can just do it after couple of tries ( jealousy!!!!!) won't just learn it overnight, but I do also think that getting lots of opinions on things can sometimes help especially if you're struggling. It could just be that it hasn't been phrased right yet for you, but if like me you've heard every explanation going on certain elements and still can't do it then no, you won't come away having mastered it.

I guess it depends how you look at these things. If you see it solely as to learn more then you'd probably be disappointed cause for the same cost you could always have loads of private lessons, but if you see it as a bit of a social thing with a bit of skating involved then I don't think it matters too much the level you at within the schools level limits if any of that makes sense?!

My thoughts on this are that if I come away with just one or two things I can use and work on, even if it's an off-ice balance or stretching exercise then it'll be worth it. Not to mention a couple of days away, hopefully a bit of fun with some new people and lots of ice time - onto a winner :-)

If you look at the NISA site - Events - this has a link to the application forms.  The Adult course says that it caters for all "right from those just starting out to learn to skate backwards" and will divide people into groups accordingly.

The adult course runs from Monday 2 April to Wednesday 4th April and is £150.

Hi Rach

I hadn't really thought about it until today.  I'm not sure I would be able to get the time off work.  We are in Dumfries Easter weekend for the synchro competition.

But I am thinking about it.  How about you?

For any of you thinking of coming north for this - Braehead is easy to get to from the airport . The adult class doesn't start until quite late on Monday - so no need to book in hotel for Sunday night .
Skate UK  what is it with inside 3 turns?????

June 2008 - learned how to do signatures.
March 2012 -can still do signatures.

how do you know what time the class starts?i understood there was 3 hours on ice and at least an hour off ice each day,(from Debi Briggs) so not sure how that would be fitted in late in the day!
