 Hi,

I'm sure we will all be interested in how this goes. Can somebody let us know?

Thanks

This was absolutley brilliant! Thoroughly enjoyed it. Great, positive coaching with lots of ' and more, amd more'. Lovely people! A really friendly helpful camp. The basics of skating were explained and developed further at whatever level we are at ie- posture, knee bend and extension. Work on important positions- at the barrier then in exercises. Great complimentary off- ice (although we could have had warm up first after lunch!) A really brilliant choreography session doing a group dance- like on danicing on ice ;D and a great meal out Thurs night with a few drinks :). I can't wait for the next one! Am sure I will be able to move again by then???!!!

Hi,

Thanks for the feedback luv2sk8. Do you think there was anybody there who was still on Skate Uk or maybe even on Skate UK and struggling with it? Would you say lower abilty skaters got much out of it?

Thanks

Paul

Hi Paul, I am sorry I don't have much idea which level people are at :( . I was concentrating so hard on skating myself :). If you speak to Mark he will give an honest opinion. He is very approachable and a really lovely guy.

Thoroughly enjoyed this camp.  Taking the basics and seeing how much better they looked with better posture, kneebend and extension was so good for me and something I really want to keep working on.  Everyone was lovely, Mark and Kathy are such encouraging and enthusiastic coaches and the group dance was something different and a lot of fun. Lovely to meet all the skaters too, both those I'd met before and many I hadn't.

I don't know what level the lowest level skaters were but can't really think it would have been suitable for anyone struggling with skate UK as they weren't teaching the basics but teaching how to make those basics look better.  So there was a lot of work on edges and crossovers and holding the positions with good extension so if you weren't confident on forward and back crossovers you would not have got a lot out of it.  Those who wanted to, added 3 turns to the exercises but they weren't taught - you included them if you could do them.  Many of the exercises linked steps together too so you had for example runs, mohawk, held back edges, step to forward etc all concentrating on posture, kneebend and extension.

So glad you had a good camp, and thanks for giving us a flavour of what it was like, in case they do another one! So it sounds as if it would be applicable to both dance and free skaters? but I'm guessing you didn't do anything on jumps/spins or specific free moves?

Did you do 'arms' and presentation stuff too?

How many took part?

 :)

There were around 30 skaters and we were divided in to two groups for some of the time but first on ice session each day (warmup) was all together.  It was suitable for dance or free skaters as it was very much about the importance of posture, knee-bend and extension as a basis for all skating and to make whatever you can do look so much better.

We didn't really do 'arms' as such but he explained how if you have good posture, knee-bend and extension then that gives you the freedom to do what you want with your arms and that can then be adapted to suit your programme or dance.

He did stress the importance of 'story' in a programme and using the musical phrasing and the group free dance he choroegraphed for us was a good example.
