Hi skaters,
There is an exciting new (covered ) ice rink coming to Horsham, West Sussex this winter. We plan to be open in time for the October half term. If there are any enthusiastic/experienced skaters that would like to come and work with us, we would love to hear from you. We are looking for full-time, part-time and weekend people. Please get in touch, even if its just to comment.
We welcome all your opinions. The ice rink is going to be part of a fun and exciting Christmas project called Christmas Fantasia
so if you know of any one that would like to get involved somehow but cant skate then we have many other positions available.
Thanks for reading and we hope to hear from you soon.

Thanks for info.  Hardly any public sessions - just ONE HOUR during the week, bit more at weekends, though there are some edge classes and of course patch for those who like that sort of thing.  Steep at £12 for a one hour public session.  How will they break even?

Do you know how big it is?

They have a studio for off-ice but no info I could find on how it can be used.  I've always thought a rink should ideally have a space where people can warm up, stretch and warm down, and also use it for dance and coach-led off ice fitness and other skating oriented training.

Agreed, though a lot of the time skaters use existing metal railings to stretch.

I think the off-ice studio is still under development at the moment; when you enter the building the reception desk is on the right-hand side; the stairs for the studio area are behind this. They should consider linking up with local gym & dance instructors.

The quoted size for the ice pad is 17m x 34m; remember it's a startup business in an industrial unit, not a purpose built NHL/Olympic facility. I think they've added some more skating sessions recently too.

The studio room at Alexandra Palace was used by dance instructors, probably a few skaters also took dance classes, and skating coaches used it for off ice stuff when it was free.  I think it adds a lot to a facility, so great if they manage to sort it out there.  17x34 is OK for a lot of purposes as long as the numbers are low enough to give reasonable space for doing stuff.

Hi,

Does anyone have any info on Planet Ice rinks? Preferably Bristol?
Is there a set level you have to be to skate on patch? I haven't taken any tests yet so not sure of my level however I have been able to skate on patch in Cardiff and Swindon so I imagine it should be okay?

I don’t know about Bristol specifically but I skate at a Planet Ice rink and to come on our patch sessions you have to have passed level 5 on their Skate Excellence courses (or the equivalent).

May be worth giving them a call just to check if it’s the same or if it depends on the individual rink.
