Do you skate at Coventry Ice Rink?
« on: June 03, 2009, 06:07:35 pm »
I'm interested in skating on patch at coventry and wondered how you go about doing so?

I have passed level 1 field moves and am working on level 1 elements and programme and level 2 field moves.
Jumps: 3 jump, salchow, toe loop, loop, flip, lutz, loop loop and flip loop combos

Spins: upright, sitspin, cross toe spin, (working on camel spin & backspin)

They tend to be stirct about who skates there as they have some of the best skaters train there.

Get in touch with the head coach there, i know for some patches like sunday mornings your coach needs to be on the ice if you want to use patch, to stop it getting too busy! which as i hear doesn't work great.

This isn't for all patches tho!

hmmm, you should still be able to use patch there. it may be worth popping along and ask to speak to the head coach. Or try to ring coventry ice rinks reception  O0 might be the best idea

I already rang the main reception and they told me that is nothing to do with them and that i have to speak to the ISS...

It's not very easy to pop into the rink as its 40mins away from my house and i would need a lift etc

I have to be honest, I doubt if they would let you on without a coach. at the moment there are a lot of people using the rink from Solihull, as its closed until Oct half term. This makes the ice very busy. As has been said before, there are a lot of very good skaters there and they really expect you to be of a very high standard to go on patches without a coach. It might be sensible to ask if any coaches have any 'spare' lessons over the summer? I normally skate at Solihull, but if my coach needs to change my lesson they have to ask for permission to do so. Telford won't be any better either. :(
Some general sessions at Coventry can be fairly empty - been on a Wednesday late afternoon - 4.15pm - although there is only 2/3 ice (hockey practise is on) there are quite a few people practising and some lessons going on. O0 Hope this helps.

According to the search results nobody has mentioned skating at Coventry three years!?

Just thought I'd say I intend to pop in today for the public session from 1pm.  I've never been keen on it, as the tiered seating is kinda oppressive, like menacing eyes or cloud looming up and around you
