Level one field moves
« on: May 10, 2007, 12:14:19 am »
My coach has entered me for the level one field moves test which I will be doing at the end of june.  Do they really put two people one the ice at the same time? I'm worried about this because I skate quite fast and my coach doesn't want me to over take the other skater. :o I only just found out that they have external judges in to test you, I always thought one of the resident coaches did this, and I am already quite nervous.

Do you automaticall fail if you fall or do something slightly wrong?

Thanks
Gareth

BTW, yes judges come in to do these tests, they are higher than the Skate uk and Passport tests and need to be done correctly

The field moves are:

6 outside edges down the length of the rink

6 inside edges up the other side

backward crossovers followed by a right backward outside edge (landing position)

Backward crossovers followwed by a left backward outside edge

Forward spirals on both feet for half a length of the rink

forward crossovers figure of 8

backward crossover figure of 8

That sounds good, I think I willl contact NISA to see if there is a video.  My coach has also entered me for level one free and elements, so theres a lot to remember by the end of june and a video sound good.

external judges do take these test, but i have never heard of more than one skater at a time(they generally want to see every detail of how you skate them) but no you dont fail if you make a mistake or two. There is usually an overall percentage that your aloud to make mistakes on, eg if u have for different things to do, you do two clean ones and then out of the 8 lobes on each of the others you make one mistake each of the 2 sections, you could still pass (if that makes any sense at all)- also you can have reskates if you do one element badly which they think you could do better. but also dont forget if you make a mistake on one move, but do another extremely well you can balance out to a pass as its an overall pass mark not being judged individually.
hope this helps x
