Yeah! I passed Level 2 - but advice needed please.
« on: May 01, 2007, 02:26:52 pm »
Well, I have passed level 2! I’m not sure how, I wouldn’t call myself a skater yet. So I would like some advice, how can I get a little more speed over the ice? I’m usually the last to arrive at the other side of the rink, it would be nice to feel just a little breeze on my face! I know you will say practice, but my nearest ice rink is a 70 mile round trip away. Any advice will be appreciated.  Do you know of any good instructional DVD’s?

Thanks

Congratulations on passing level two.   Don't worry too much about speed at the moment, as it does come with time.
I found that following someone going at a slightly faster speed than me helped.  (not someone  belting round at 50mph, also best avoided in crowded family sessions unless you good at  avoiding people). Just ask someone you know to go in front slightly faster and try to keep up but not overtake  for a few  laps, when you get confident at that speed ask them to increase a little more.   Sounds odd but it has worked for me on both  ice and roller skates.

this sounds a real cliche, and im sure the coaches have sed this to u before, and my coach certainly says it to me most days but it really does work at all levels, you really have to bend you knees and stretch you free leg it is amazing how much faster it will make you move.  :)
