Hi,
I live in Cheshire, I'm new to this site and have always wanted to skate. I only had a couple of goes as a youngster, as there was no rink near to where I lived, but always followed the sport. Now I have transport, I've decided to rekindle the passion for the ice and have started on Skate UK this week, along with my husband who after one go on the ice was really keen to learn more. It's 27 years since I was asking my parents if I could stay up to watch Robin Cousins at the Winter Olympics in Lake Placid. I was 13 years old and he was my hero. I can't believe it's so long ago. My nearest rink is 26 miles away and I went three times last week and brought my first skates. Those hire skates are awful. Sunday was our first lesson and I loved it. Can't wait for the next one. Must go mid week and practice. It's nice to see other older people on here who are new to the sport. Although my head still thinks I'm a teenager my body tends to say 'don't think so'. ;D

Hey

I'm 15 years old n started skating nearly 1 1/2years ago now and on level 1 figure.

I'm struggling alot with spins atm so any help appreciated, i can't go round more than 4/5 times and loose the speed.
It's sometimes embarassing when you see 8 year olds going round bout 8 times :p

Any help appreciated.
I'll take it to another thread so not to mess this one up!

I returned to skating in April this year as a 26 year old, and was surprised to learn i picked things up quicker now i'm older than i did when i wa slittle, After trying for years to get my 3 turns as a 9 year old, my rink closed had a very long break form the ice then came back to it and shocked my self at being able to do three turns within about 5 weeks of skating once a week, since then i've moved up my skate uk levels as quickly as i could and am currently working on level 9 which i'm pretty much there with, but my backward inside edges are a bit shaky as i can't get the hang of pushing into my body. As i have to do it from stand still with one push i can only do a slight curve as haven't got the power yet, we getting there and as theres 5 weeks till assessment week Sure i'll have it by then!
Anyway i've rabbled on enough now! Have enjoyed reading all the posts getting tips etc tho!

Hi! I'm silverbrumby123, or Claire XD

I started skating last year around late spring, and will be completing skateuk stars gold freestyle soon. In either 3 weeks, or 9, depending on if our coach thinks we're ready or not.

I love skating, and was really excited when I was able to start. I started when I was 16, i'm now 17.

I also do trampolining, and started gymnastics in september.

Passed- skate uk 1-10, passport bronze, silver + gold in dance and freestyle~

Private lessons at cardiff: Wednesday 7.45-8.15am

Just thought id say hi. Ive just started adult beginners lessons at planet ice milton keynes, whilst my three year old had started the beginners childrens lessons- and she definatly puts her 28 yr old mother to shame. Wish i was so un-afraid of falling like the kids are!!

I know! While it's easier for adults to take in how to do something and to know where they going wrong, that sense of how dangerous a fall can be tends to set in later in chidhood and certainly never goes! Sometimes you just have to put it to the back of your mind and trust that you won't fall, telling yourself if you do it'll only be a bruise or two! I've had several large bruises which cause great hilarity at the school where i work whne my knees are more bruised than the kids! ;D

Hi everyone

I have just discovered this site.

I have been skating for just over a year and am 41.  My Daughter persuaded me to go as she became addicted to Dancing on Ice.  She is 10 and whilst we both started at the same time she has whizzed through the levels and is no on National Level 1 while I on the other hand am stuck on Skate UK level 5 not being able to do the backward one foot glide properly.  However we are also working on level 6 stuff so I may get there one day.

We skate at Bristol although we like to try and visit other rinks Bristol rink not being the most attractive in the country.  However we are grateful if is there as we are a bit short on rinks in the West Country.  We live in Weston-super-Mare so our next nearest rinks would be either Cardiff or Swindon which are both a bit over an hour away.

Our favourite two rinks are Sheffield and Nottingham and we have also skating at Doncaster Dome, Telford and Solihull and last Christmas the outdoor rink at The Mall in Bristol.

Hi everyone

Has anyone else noticed that the forum clock is one hour slow?
