It doesn't have to be massively expensive if you don't get completely hooked and start testing and competing. Also worth mentioning that resisting the temptation to overboot/blade also helps keep the costs down - and helps your skating, too.  8)

Returned to the ice in Sept 2017 after a major leg injury in 1999. Skating in Jackson Elite Pro & MK Vision Syncro. Still scary after all these years.

Here in CZ adult man are skating in RF3s or RF2. They say RF4s would break in fast. They have small single jumps at most.
