Heard that Guildford's ice plant broke when they restarted it. :-[
They are waiting on spares to be delivered and installed and have said it won't be working again until the end of September.

According to an acquaintance who works for the Link Centre Swindon they have started officially working on the rink.
Possible opening mid to end September.

Plymouth rink have been asked by the BBC when they plan on opening ascend they just said, "We're looking into reopening when it is safe and viable to do so."

The BBC also asked the developer of the new, replacement, "International Ice Arena" what's happening with that, and were told that the Covid-19 pandemic put the building on hold but they are talking with their "partners" in the project and hope to restart "soon".  <sigh>

The BBC also filmed a group of Plymouth adults on their Off-Ice skates on Plymouth Hoe this morning.   We'll see if anything comes of it.
Returned to the ice in Sept 2017 after a major leg injury in 1999. Skating in Jackson Elite Pro & MK Vision Syncro. Still scary after all these years.

If things continue as they are, vast swathes of sport, leisure, travel, retail and hospitality will disappear as they are unsustainable.  As a minority sport with facilities that are expensive to run, ice skating can't hope to survive the cull.

Too true, and not just rinks, coaches too.
I know of at least 2 long serving coaches that have retired from Swindon. One of them was my son and daughter's coach.

Looks like Alexandra Palace and Lee Valley are opening up for public sessions now, fairly limited at present, book in advance etc.

The Eden Project in Cornwall started construction of their seasonal rink to open in October (usually half term) through to February.  Whether it will carry on now we have the Rule of Six, however, remains to be seen.

Plymouth Pavilions issued a bland, "We're currently working on reopening as soon as it is safe and financially viable to do so" statement a while back.  There is hope, however, as a member of their staff who collected her skates before heading off to Uni was told she could stay on the payroll and work when she's back during the Christmas holidays, which is the best indication yet that they might actually reopen.  Naturally none of the coaches have been told anything like this...  >:(

I don't think the rule of six affects sports and leisure in quite that way - it's essentially a limitation on private socialising in groups bigger than six.  So a rink would not be able to accept single bookings for more than 6 people, but group lessons would be OK as they are exempt from the rule.

I'll not be going back until everything is normal - basically not in my lifetime.  Will skate outdoors until masks are made mandatory outdoors, then in my drive until police send drones to spy on me.
