I'm now out of ice skating after 40+ years on ice, but I can only agree with the comments about knee bend.  Once did a dance course with a master coach where we started off each session by skating around the rink getting as low as possible with a knee bend - long strokes, stretched free leg.  Whatever you think is low, you can always get lower ;D .  Apart from skating in a straight line, the issue comes up with crossovers going around the corners.  Press down the outside ankle and don't point your toe on the ice.  You're aiming for that T shape relative to your skating edge.

It sounds mad, but after you've done about 6 circuits then skating normally is much easier :) - and toe pushes certainly minimize.

Persevere.  It isn't easy, but it's worthwhile.
