Great outdoor fun!  ;)

I cringe when I look at my technique, but I've hardly skated in the last two weeks. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!  ;D

I'm very jealous, it looks like heaven.  How thick was the ice and was there water underneath?

;) ;) ;)  That looks so much fun.  Canada is sooo good for ice sports.  If you ever get the chance, go to Lake Louise and skate on the lake.  There's mountains and a glacier in the background and the hotel is there to dispense hot drinks.

I can also recall a meal at the Jasper Park Lodge.  There was a pianist playing in the restaurant, overlooking a frozen lake where a girl was skating.

I have yet to find any sufficiently frozen outdoor ice to skate on since I took up skating (I discount UK pop ups).

I tried this but it was before I started skating again and the hire bit in the hotel was closed so we couldn't skate. No-one else wanted to stay around until it re-opened.  :( We went to look at the ice sculptures and slid around for a while on the ice but it wasn't quite the same! Spectacular setting though!

I've skated at Lake Louise - some years ago now.  We took our own skates with us knowing we'd be staying there.  It was amazing with the scenery and an ice castle built in the middle to skate around.  Bit scary when it starts to creak mind at one end you could see running water underneath where the stream enters.  They had a mini zamboni to keep it smooth and there was hardly ever anyone on it. Lovely!

So this comment leads me to ask...does one normally use different skates/blades for outdoor skating?  I've never skated outdoors, so I don't know.

Not that I'm aware. It's just ice. Lots of people have asked me if my skates are blunt afterwards though.
