help with cross overs!
« on: March 07, 2007, 07:13:06 pm »
I read somewhere on this forum that doing the crossover when you turn is the same action as walking up stairs sideways, but me and my boyfriend are having difficulty staying upright whilst trying to cross our feet over! can anyone please advise on how it's done?  :-\
he's had far more attempts at it than me,i'm a bit of a wus!! :D

You can practice by walking sidewards on floor  (even with skates on)...   When on the ice  the important things  are  Bend the Knees,   and  look in the direction you are going   not out of the curve,  you should find when more confident you  will lean into the  curve slightly  too.

I did kind of find that swinging out wide before the curve helped a bit, but I'm scared of wiping loads of people out when I fall unless the ice is clear! :D

I guess we'll get there.

When you do forward crossovers (on the ice), really bend your knee in to the ice (the leg in which you are crossing your other leg over.)

This is what my coach has taught me to do, and it really does work.
